2006-07 Season Results

Match Reports

Sunday 17th February 2008
Athletico Dublin v Wallett's Court FC

TURNING POINT OF THE SEASON
Result: 3 - 4
Match Report - An accomplished first half performance showing some real class giving a two goal to nothing lead should have set our stall out for a second half display to at least double the goal deficit. However, the second half was far from a competent display of footballing prowess, leading to two early goals from the oppostion to draw level then a goal each to bring the scoreline to 3 apiece followed by a 'lucky' late on winner from the Wallett's to secure the three points and a 4 - 3 victory to lift WCFC out of the reglegation zone. Lucky escape from what could have been a disasterous result. The dubious substitutions jury are looking at this game with some interest...

Sunday 16th December 2007
Eastry Ravens v Wallett's Court FC

THREE IS THE MAGIC NUMBER!!!
Result: 3 - 1
Match Report - Third time lucky in the third round of the Kent Junior Cup! Originally scheduled for 3rd November this re-run produced a similar scoreline to the abandoned game played three weeks earlier when the weather conditions and a somewhat overly-cautious referee forced the match to be stopped after 67 minutes. Said referee could have saved us all the bother of doing it all again if only he'd let the game run for another 3  minutes and the result would have stood! So, the re-played match panned out well for the Wallett's with the welcome return of Dane Luchford wearing the number 3 shirt which turned out to be the magic number as he netted a hat-trick of well taken goals. The first of which (WCFC's 33rd goal this season) was supplied by a deftly taken free kick care of big brother Justin, aged 33, who only takes 3 pints to get p**sed, is 5' 3" tall, has 3 chat up lines and only 3 friends... SPOOKY!!! (The last bit may be an exaggeration!). So with no game now for 3 weeks, have a great Christmas and a happy New Year!!!

Sunday 25th November 2007
Dover Dynamos v Wallett's Court FC
Result: 1 - 1
Match Report - A game measured by the sheer hard work and determination of the entire Wallett's Court team. A stalemate was forced by a dogged display of closing down and strong challenges across the park. Dynamos were first to break the stalemate with the first of two controversial penalties when J Oliver was deemed to have taken down an opposing player in the box. The balance was re-addressed when a few minutes later when after a fluid move a Dave Fielding shot was parried down by the arms of an advancing defender. The ensuing penalty was dispatched with clinical ruthlessness a by level-headed Steve Smith (never thought I'd use those words to describe him?).
A special mention must go to Rory for 'taking one' for the team. Expecting and deserving a run out, his silky skills were left unused in a game that proved to be too tight to make any changes to the delicate balance of the game.
With a league point in the bag before Christmas, let's hope we can build on this foundation and make progess in the right direction as we enter the business end of the season.

Sunday 7th October 2007
Wallett's Court FC v Westbrooke Club
Result: 3 - 1
Match Report - The spirit IS alive! At last a performance to give us HOPE! Hope for the season ahead, hope for a cup run (or three), hope for a chance to string together a few games that show our true strengths. This game showed that WCFC have it in them to be a force to be reckoned with this year. Up against tough oppostion from the the north coast of Kent (and the west coast of Ireland!) the Wallett's had to play their best football to come out on top. The first two goals were well constructed affairs with passes numbering into double figures before the ball was deftly placed in the back of the net by stealth-like assasin, Tom Dodd. The North Kent crew appeared after the break with their intents pinned firmly to the mast of 'HMS Westbrooke' and soon replied with a practically unstoppable goal from a superbly taken corner and strong header. A come back looked on the cards, but a combination of staunch defending and a long overdue spell of confident goal-keeping kept the oppostion at bay. Then after an 'inspired' substitution by player manager Dave Fielding (older brother of the lovely Emily Jane, who incidentally likes the odd glass of port and if you're buying would like a large one please!) came the third goal after a driven cross was rifled into the Westbrooke goal off the sweet spot of Dave 'the gaffer's' bonce. Holy Mary, sweet Jesus we only went and won. Feels good doesn't it? Keep it up the Wallett's!!!

Sunday 30th September 2007
Fulchester United  v Wallett's Court FC
Result: 10 (yes that's ten!) - 3
Match Report - Where to start? A bad day at the office could sum it up, but we'll see if we can pick some positives from the bones of this encounter. With some key players missing, up against a side yet to drop a point this season the Wallett's were always going to find this a tough challenge. Perhaps a bad omen was the inability to find a changing room that led to a 30 second warm-up which showed when two early goals caught Wallett's napping, then another before a bleary eyed WCFC could reply with two deft finishes from the front pair of Tom Dodds and Scott Winham. Then with only 30 minutes gone, first blood to Fulchester as Ben Leberl took a knock to his eye which split like an over-ripe tomato spilling claret all over the number 4 shirt - 'that'll never come out' uttered Miller in the style of the old dear from the Daz advert. At half time the score stood at 4 - 2 and there was still a bouyant (French for up-beat) mood in the Wallett's camp. Not for long, an own goal and 2 (yes that's two, Rory!) penalties put paid to a come-back. After that it was more or less one way traffic, heads went down and legs became heavy despite one more well-taken goal, Wallett's were never going to make a miraculous comeback and holes started to appear in the team's shape due to a combination of injury, despair and frustration. The positives... nope, can't really think of any! Hang on, remember the year when we still had no points at Christmas, we're not in that position yet, is that a positive?

Sunday 9th September 2007
Wallett's Court FC v Dover Dynamos
Result: 1 - 2
Match Report - An Indian Summer's day in early September, sun shining down on a pitch in perfect condition, hardly a breath of wind, two competent footballing sides - the ingredients for an entertaining sporting spectacle.
Dover Dynamos see a number of changes to the squad of 0607 including some younger players who ply their trade on a Saturday for quality teams such as Deal Town. WCFC 'Gaffer' Dave Fielding was heard to say before the kick-off he'd be happy with a draw against the rejuvinated Dynamo force. That is nearly what he got...
Wallett's scored first from the head of new signing Scot Winham who showed great potential with his touch and movement around the field. Let's hope to see more of his work in future fixtures.
At the break Wallett's were in front and had played well with some excellent defending under pressure. This continued into the second half and it seemed inevitable that the relentless pressure on the back four may lead to an equaliser. The inevitable came in the 70th minute after a speculative shot from outside the box caught an unsighted keeper Danny Skinner on his heels and the ball nestled in the corner of the goal. Then with 10 minutes to go Dynamos struck again with what looked like an innocuous shot from 10 yards again Skins was caught off guard as the ball seemed to swerve in the air and the ball spilt over the line. 'Don't have nightmares over that one Skins, it happens to the best of keepers (who'd be a goalie hey?)'.
So, after being undone by a stroke or two of misfortune Wallett's find themselves approaching October with 'nil points'. On a brighter note... er, the weather is quite nice for the time of year.

Sunday 2nd September 2007
Eastry Ravens v Wallett's
Court FC
Result: 1 - 0
Match Report - Over the Summer there have been some changes in the Dover Premier league. Two teams - Tilmanstone Ravens and Eastry came together (a la Acrington and Stanley) to form Eastry Ravens and it seems the cream of both sides have blended quite well. The Ravens looked the sharper of the teams for most of the 90 minutes, a reflection of their busy pre-season fixtures. Whereas a somewhat depleted Wallett's Court FC lacked edge, potency and finish. However positives are to be drawn from the game, there were spells of good passing in midfield but in the final third Eastry stood strong.
The game started evenly and in the first few minutes a Steve Smith shot (atomic scoop) from deep in the Wallett's half narrowly missed the target saving the blushes of a back-pedalling Eastry keeper.
Then after 25 minutes the talismanic Dan 'Dale' Irvine-Irving had to leave the field of play due to a knee injury sustained by a commited challenge on the Eastry no. 1 who also took a knock but continued for the remainder of the game.
Changes were forced and Steve Smith pushed up front and substitute Gavin Oakley took over his natural right-back position.
Wallett's continued to battle on and pushed forward, a John Muir shot ended up in the arms of Eastry's keeper who launched a quick kick over the heads of 20 outfield players into the path of an advancing striker who lobbed an advancing Danny Skinner in the Wallett's goal. 1-0 and route one football at it's most annoying! 'Sucker Punch' announced J Oliver!
The second half was an untidy affair with neither side making many chances, Eastry came nearest to scoring but were foiled by an overhead kick goal line clearance/forward-back pass from Oakley.
In the last minutes of the game Wallett's pressed up but the elusive equaliser wouldn't come, some consolation comes in the knowledge that later in the day Mourinho and his boys suffered a similar fate. Keep your heads up lads and remember that winning feeling in the Tom Donnelly Cup...

THE CHRIS CHAPMAN CUP
Sunday 19th August 2007
Wallett's
Court FC v St. Margaret's FC
Result: 1 - 0
Match Report - This pre-season annual fixture always proves to be a challenge, a challenge for Dave Fielding to scrape together eleven willing players who are not on holiday, at some festival, gay/hungover (you know who you are!) or suffering from some horrific injury involving a lilo, three beers and a right tit! The side that turned out however more than made up for the absence of some first team players, maybe not in skill and experience but with shed-loads of team spirit and sheer determination. The game was not the prettiest spectacle but showed a youthful St. Margaret's side who should do well in the league this year if only they had more belief in themselves.
The Wallett's boys dug deep and used their cup-winning experience to the full and scraped a victory through a well-worked move ending in a typically clinical finish from Dan 'Dale' Irvine-Irving.
A word should be said about a confident performance from Dan Kerr up front. Playing in only his second game for the team he showed a good awareness and was instrumental in the victory. Also a big-up to Steve Smith for donning the gloves in the absence of Skins.
So, not a bad pre-season this year, with three trophies in the last three games what better start could we have had?

THE LEGENDS TROPHY
Sunday 12th August 2007
Wallett's Court FC v Hope Inn Legends
Result: 5 - 2
Match Report - A great turn out from the legends. The line-up including some big names in 1980's & 90's Dover League football such as Mark 'Howlie' Howland, Neil 'Jumbo' Critcher, Chris 'The Fly' Greenfield, Hughie and Ali 'the jocks' Kennedy, Paul 'PK' Keohane, Franks, Steve 'Bassy' Bass...
Apologies to those left off the list but you were probably before my time and I didn't recognise you with the grey hair big old beer gut and all!!! Talking of which the match was refereed? by the legend that is G in a fair, authoritative and assertive way except for the three last minute penalties awarded for no particular reason. To be continued...
